'Stangs face Stings in defacto playoff game
From chron.com:
It's a miracle for Friendswood to even be in position for the playoffs following a rash of season-ending injuries this season.
The Mustangs were open last week and blanked Santa Fe 35-0 on Oct. 21 in their most-recent outing. Texas City is coming off 60-0 win against Santa Fe on Oct. 28 and will try to break a three-game losing streak against Friendswood that dates back to a 21-20 home victory by the Stingarees in 2007.
Friendswood beat Texas City 35-28 last year, 33-17 in 2009 and 27-22 in 2008.
"It's basically a playoff game for our team and Texas City this week," Friendswood coach Steve Van Meter said. "The winner gets to play another week, so it's really a playoff opener, and both teams are approaching it that way."
