Teel wins 3200 meter gold medal

AUSTIN -- Ryan Teel completed the first half of his bid for two gold medals Friday morning at the UIL state track and field meet by winning the 3,200 meters by six-tenths of a second in 9 minutes, 14.82 seconds at the University Interscholastic League state track and field meet.

Teel edged Smithson Valley’s Dylan Willett for the Class 4A state crown. Teel won the boys’ Class 4A individual cross country title at the state meet last fall.

Third place went to Omar Trevino of San Antonio Edison in 9:18.12.
The event favorite, Brady Turnbull of Frisco Liberty, finished fifth in 9:22.31 while Michael Lindberg of Kingwood Park, whom Teel edged at the regional meet, was fourth in 9:21.42.
Teel will bid for gold in the 1,600 meters later today.
Lady Mustang Shannon Ellis is also aiming for a gold medal in the high jump this morning.
